Vogue 1657 How to Hack it for the Party
Hi everyone! Today, I’m super excited to share my experience with Vogue 1657, a stunning dress pattern I recently whipped up for a night out on the town. This dress has quickly become a favorite of mine, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! My trip to Nashville would not be complete without a stroll across the pedestrian bridge all dolled up. But first let’s talk about the dress.
The Vogue 1657 Pattern:
Vogue 1657 is a fitted dress with a flattering silhouette. It features a V-neckline, a cinched waist, and a straight skirt. The dress is designed to be made from a medium-weight knit fabric, and it comes in sizes 6-22. The pattern has two views a long version and a shorter skirt version. You know I lwent for the short version for all sorts of reasons.
My Vogue 1657 Pattern Modifications:
I made a few modifications to the pattern to suit my personal preferences. I shortened the hem by a few inches to make it more appropriate for a party dress, and I also removed some of the fullness from the sides to create a more streamlined look. To really make this dress 2025 ready, I chose a super sparkly knit fabric from Gail K Fabrics in Atlanta. I prewashed it several times and dried it on high, and it still got lots of sparkles all over the floor and everywhere else – a small price to pay for such fabulous sparkle! If you can pre-wash a fabric like this that sheds sparkles definitely do it because it will shed everywhere in an embarrassing way. The washing and drying also shrinks the fabric down to it’s true size–no sizing surprises after it’s sewn.
Dress Fabric and Notions:
For my dress, I used 2 yards of that beautiful black knit fabric with silver sparkles. I also used 1 yard of black tricot for the lining. The only notion I needed was 1 yard of 1/2-inch-wide elastic for the waist.
Vogue 1657 Construction:
The dress was fairly easy to sew, even with the modifications. The instructions were clear and concise, and the pattern pieces were well-labeled. I did have a few issues with the lining, but I was able to overcome them with some creative problem-solving. (I’ll link back to my “how to sew with knits” post – lining can be tricky!)
The Finished Vogue 1657 with modifications:
I am absolutely thrilled with how my dress turned out! It is comfortable, flattering, and absolutely stunning. I love the way the fabric shimmers and sparkles in the light, and I think the fit is perfect. I wore the dress in Nashville with a pair of Jeffrey Campbell wedge heels, called the Leonite. The shoes kind of look like Versace so I nicknamed them my Versace heels.
Overall Impression:
I highly recommend Vogue 1657 to anyone looking for a flattering and stylish dress pattern. The pattern is well-written and easy to follow, and the finished product is sure to impress. I would definitely make this dress again in the future.
Additional Sewing Tips:
- If you are using a knit fabric, be sure to prewash it before cutting and sewing.
- If you are not sure about your size, I recommend making a muslin first.
- Don’t be afraid to add your own personal touches to the dress!
Where to Buy the Pattern:
You can purchase the Vogue 1657 pattern from your local fabric store or online at https://simplicity.com/voguepatterns.
Fabric Recommendations:
For this dress, I recommend using a medium-weight knit fabric with good drape and recovery. Some good options include jersey, Ponte Roma, and cotton/spandex blends.
Where to Buy Knit Fabric:
I purchased my fabric from Gail K Fabrics in Atlanta. You can also find a variety of knit fabrics for Vogue 1657 and other knit fabric projects here online at https://fabric-fabric.com/.
Where to Wear a Sparkly Dress
A sparkly outfit is the perfect way to add a touch of glamour to any occasion. I was hanging out doing Karaoke with my husband on a throwback date night, and it was perfect. Here are a few ideas for where you could wear a sparkly dress:
- A black-tie event
- A holiday party
- A New Year’s Eve celebration
- A wedding
- A night out on the town
- A special date night
No matter where you’re going, a sparkly dress is sure to make you feel confident and beautiful.
