In my last blog post, I gave you a sneak peek into Paris, France’s fashion district and fabrics. It is truly like no other and a very different experience than even my Athens, Greece, fabric hunt. And, of course, wish I could bring back everything my eyes see, but alas, baggage fees.

Here are the nine fabrics I bought back from Paris, France, this year. If you prefer to watch the video, you can check it out here:\

The Line up of Fabrics from Paris, France

1) Pink suede remnant

Pink suede remnant fabric from Paris France

I love this color and especially love how soft this fabric is. It’s such a small section of fabric so I plan to use this amazingly soft fabric remnant as an accent. I can use this for a jacket, lapel, welt pockets, and patch pockets.

Several creative and practical ways exist to make the most of a suede fabric remnant. Here are a few ideas:

  • Accessories: Use the suede fabric to make stylish accessories like belts, headbands, or hair ties. You can also create unique statement jewelry pieces such as earrings or bracelets.
  • Home Decor: Transform the suede remnant into decorative accents for your home. Make cozy throw pillow covers, placemats, or table runners. For a luxurious look, experiment with different textures by combining suede with other fabrics like velvet or cotton.
  • Fashion Upgrades: Elevate your existing wardrobe by adding suede accents. Consider adding suede patches to jeans or jackets for a trendy touch. Using suede fabric, you can also make a fashionable clutch, wallet, or keychain.
  • Upholstery Projects: If you have enough suede fabric, consider re-upholstering small furniture like a chair or stool. This can give your space a chic and sophisticated update.
  • Craft Projects: Get creative with smaller craft projects. Use suede fabric to make stylish notebook covers, bookmarks, or even phone cases. You can also use it for plush toy making or doll clothing.

Remember to handle suede fabric from Paris, France or otherwise carefully, as it requires special treatment compared to other fabrics. With these ideas, you can turn your suede remnant into something beautiful and valuable. Enjoy your crafting!

3) Irridesent-inspired burnout fabric

This beautiful burnout fabric is from Au Gentleman Des Cuirs sacres coupons. At some point, it will become a blouse for my collection of summer and spring tops. The crushed velvet, iridescent pattern reminds me of sea coral. Imagine that! Fabric from Paris, France, that reminds you of the sea.

Burnout fabrics are a unique type of fabric where certain areas have been chemically treated to create a semi-transparent or sheer pattern, while the rest of the fabric remains solid. They aren’t unique to buying fabrics in Paris, France.

Here are some ideas for using burnout fabrics:

1. Fashionable Clothing: Burnout fabrics are perfect for creating stylish and trendy clothing pieces. Use them to make tops, dresses, skirts, or even scarves. The semi-transparent patterns can add an exciting and elegant touch to your outfits.

2. Layering Effect: Use burnout fabrics as an overlay or layering piece. You can layer them over solid-colored fabrics to create dimension and visual interest. This works well for tops, dresses, or even as a cover-up for swimwear. (this is what I plan on doing)

3. Home Decor: Incorporate burnout fabrics into your home decor by using them for curtains, window panels, or decorative pillow covers. The sheer patterns can add a soft and delicate touch to your living space.

4. Accessories: Use burnout fabrics by creating accessories like shawls, headbands, or handbags. These accessories will have a unique and stylish look due to the semi-transparent patterns.

5. Special Occasions: Burnout fabrics are often used for elegant and sophisticated evening wear. Consider making a special occasion dress or blouse using burnout fabric to stand out at events like weddings or parties.

Remember to consider the delicacy of burnout fabrics and handle them carefully during sewing and washing. Enjoy the elegant and intricate patterns burnout fabrics can bring to your projects!

4) Blue-green watercolor cotton knit fabric

There is such a large variety of fabrics in Paris, France. Once again, I lean heavily towards knits (See the secret guide here). Therefore, I purchased this beautiful 100% cotton knit that belongs in my collection of amazing knits–whether a dress, top, or outfit, the 100% cotton jewel is perfect for summer and spring when the temperature is hot and humid. Having fabrics that breathe is essential. One of my favorite features of this fabric is the playful, whimsical dots that appear random but have a definite pattern.
