Nobl vs Away Carry On: Which Luggage is Best?

It’s the ultimate luggage showdown for the creative traveler. In one corner, we have the established champion and internet darling, the Away Carry-On. In the other, the thoughtful and sophisticated newcomer, the NOBL Carry-On.

Away: The wheels are excellent and have held up for years of being dragged across cobblestones. But where this bag truly pulls ahead is the handle. The handle function is vastly superior—sturdy, smooth, and reliable when you are rushing through a terminal.

NOBL: The Hinomoto wheels are famously silent, and the wheel locks are a nice touch for inclines. However, the soft-close side handle and telescopic handle mechanism simply do not compete with the smooth reliability of the Away bag.

The Verdict: AWAY.

When you are sprinting to a gate, handle function is everything. Away takes the crown.

Round 3: Interior Organization & Compression

This is where the differences become crystal clear for an over-packer.

Away: The interior compression system is much, much better. The rigid compression pad allows you to aggressively cinch down an entire capsule wardrobe, maximizing every inch of space.

NOBL: While it features built-in zippered pockets, cupholders, and hooks on the outside, the actual internal compression system lacks the power of the Away. Plus, the front laptop pocket is nearly useless once the main compartment is fully packed.

If you travel heavy and need serious interior compression, the Away system is unmatched.

Round 4: Durability (The “Bag Chucker” Test)

Away: I can personally attest to the durability of this bag—it has survived being stuffed with heavy fabric on more than a dozen international trips. Most importantly, the Away bag can handle the aggressive airport “bag chuckers.” It takes a beating on the tarmac and keeps going, backed by the best lifetime warranty in the business.

NOBL: Listen, she is stunning. But she is also clearly meant for the gentle embrace of a first-class overhead bin, not the merciless hands of the tarmac crew. The second I was forced to gate-check this beauty, she sustained what I can only describe as a traumatic structural injury. The baggage handlers did not care about her vibrant pink aesthetic. Nobl is a fantastic carry-on, but Away is built to survive the unpredictable realities of international transit.
