One of the best places to stay in Athens, Greece

Of all the things you plan for during vacation one of the most important is lodging.  If you are reading this, like me you survived almost two full summers of limited or no travel.  We had a huge European vacation planned for the summer of 2020 and with two news announcements, it seemed to disappear into thin air. Greece wasn’t a part of that travel plan but after much prayer and contemplating that’s where we decided to go. If you want to hit all the major sites in Athens, Greece, I highly recommend staying somewhere close, like the Zillers boutique hotel. It’s literally located within 800 feet of the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, major shops, and dining.

Location

The Zillers Athens Boutique Hotel is located in the Plaka district of Athens. It’s on and popping in this region. The area is teeming with shops, restaurants, bars, and tiny streets filled with gifts, gadgets, and treats. From our room, we could see the Acropolis clearly. Moreover, this boutique hotel is close to everything you want and need and is steps away from The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation, or the Mētrópolis.

Service at Ziller’s

The staff members are at the zillers Athens boutique pleasant and attentive to literally every need. We had a situation with one of our bags that the staff worked out to our surprise.

Rooms

Now for the good stuff. While you won’t be in your room long because there is so much to do and see, the type of room you book on vacation sets the tone of the trip quickly. Keep in mind when you book the Zillers boutique hotel in Athens, it’s a boutique hotel. It only has 10 rooms. Our family loves this style of hotel because we immediately feel immersed in the culture. In Europe, that often means no hand towels and a bidet.

We had the two Acropolis view suites, 101 and 201. Our children had the lower smaller suite and we had the higher floor suite.  Both rooms had floor-to-ceiling windows that open out to a small balcony. In addition, both rooms were exceptionally clean, equipped with bathrobe, slippers, bath amenities, and a safe. There are plenty of electrical outlets for charging and did I mention the view?

Dining experience

Let’s talk about the breakfast at Ziller’s. I loved the breakfast here. I couldn’t get past the lovely light Greek omelet so I had it every day I was there. The breakfast comes with fruit and a bread box with fresh butter and preserves. I could have just had the mini cheese pies every day. Delightful and a forever memory these pies are for me.  We stayed at 2 other locations in Greece though not in Athens and this place at the best cheese pies.

The view from the rooftop makes you want to linger and enjoy the quietness of the morning.

Cons

No sitting area or lobby

If you need to get away from your vacation buddy there is no place to do it at the hotel but literally next door there is a hoping restaurant that gets ‘turnt’ up every night (or at least every night I was there)

Lots of stairs to climb 🧗‍♀️

Disabled persons may struggle because even the elevator could not accommodate a wheelchair

No central A/C

It’s an LG A/C cooler. Not a deal-breaker for us. We were comfortable but some travelers, especially those who love their central air conditioning may find some spaces in the suite warm. Church bells 🔔 The suites are situated directly in front of the metropolitan church of Athens, a beautifully constructed picturesque monument.  However, church bells chime like “clockwork” on the hour and half hour.  Truthfully, I slept through it and forgot about it until breakfast but those travelers who are super sensitive to sound should consider the church bells.
