Coccon dress Tacara by Seamwork Patterns

Pattern
Inspiration
The desire for comfort: The tacara seamwork pattern looked easy, comfortable, and loose-fitting. I wanted something I could throw on flats or sneakers with and go out the door.
Pattern review
Challenges: Proportion, proportion, proportion–gotta get it right with dress patterns
What I truly loved: I think this would be a gorgeous dress in ANOTHER fabric and with some adjustments to the side seam. I do not blame the pattern designer. I needed to pay attention to the type of fabrics used, and this was a muslin for the next make
Pattern Description: Loose fitting cocoon style dress
Pattern Sizing:XS – 3XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it did. The Seamwork pattern designers seem to always get this right.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were. If you sew a lot, you probably won’t use them much. This pattern only has a few pieces and is not difficult to sew
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It’s big. I wish there were more final garment measurements to help figure out what pattern adjustments I needed to make. Even the model on the pattern makers site needed to lengthen by 2″. I probably needed to shorten by 3-4″ and I didn’t which made the dress look very boxy and disproportioned on me.
Fabric Used: Knit/Spandex blend
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I shortened by 1″
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Maybe, I need to make quite a few alterations to get the right fit.
Conclusion: This pattern needs more final garment measurements. Make a muslin if you are going to sew this dress and take note of where the pockets fall. I had to completely remove the pockets because they fell well below my hips.
