Welcome to Sewing For My Sanity!
Hi, I’m Shontae! I’m a pediatrician, a mom of two, and a passionate sewist with an incurable case of fabric wanderlust. Just like some people yearn to explore new countries, I’m driven by an insatiable desire to discover unique textiles, patterns, and textures from around the world.
Sewing has become my therapy, my escape, and my way of expressing myself. I love playing with colors and prints, creating unique garments that fit my petite frame perfectly.
On this blog, you’ll find:
- Petite fashion tips and tricks: From finding the right fit to mastering alterations, I’ll share everything I’ve learned about dressing confidently as a petite woman.
- Sewing inspiration and tutorials: Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, I hope to inspire you with my sewing projects, from simple summer tops to show-stopping sequin dresses. And if you live near me locally, I’ll even teach you to sew in targeted classes.
- Fabric finds and inspiration: I’ll share my latest fabric discoveries, from luxurious silks to vibrant prints, and offer ideas on how to use them in your own sewing projects.
- Lifestyle musings: Beyond sewing, I’ll also share glimpses into my life as a busy mom and pediatrician, including my favorite travel adventures, and self-care rituals.
Some would call me petite and curvy; that’s an entirely different conversation. In reality, I’m super petite, someone less than 5 feet tall, a mighty 4’11”.
Why Sewing for My Sanity?
My sewing journey began out of frustration with finding clothes that fit my petite frame and a deep-seated fabric wanderlust. I was always drawn to unique textures and prints, yearning to transform them into something beautiful.
Sewing has not only transformed my wardrobe but also my life. It’s a creative outlet that allows me to de-stress, learn new skills, and connect with a wonderful community of fellow sewists. You all are amazing in every shape, size and color.
