My Petite Adjustments for this Blazer Dress

Objectively, for me, this pattern had a significant length problem. For obvious reasons, I was concerned about chopping it up too much and in the wrong places. Button and dart placement must be strategically placed on McCalls 7997 to get the right fit. So, it was a slow chop, a very slow, deliberate chop. 

I removed 2 inches from the dart area near the torso, two inches from the middle section on the lengthen-shorten line, and 2 inches from the bottom hem. Then I decided that it would be entirely too short, which is interesting since at 4’11” my standard length reduction is approximately 7″ overall. I had 7 “stuck in my head but here’s what I forgot. That’s for pants. Pants are a whole different task. And the more I looked at my 6”, the more I felt the back would be entirely short, like unwearable. Back to the drawing board with this dress at the cut table, I added three inches using my dot paper below. I love this paper; it’s suitable for a multitude of tasks.

Furthermore, other petite adjustments included removing 2 in from the sleeve length. I knew that one was correct.  

I feared that with my petite frame, McCall’s 7997 wouldn’t look acceptable with my height, but it’s all about the length adjustments and measurements you take before cutting the fabric. Every adjustment was worth it.
