Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Side peplum fitted dress with belt and bias collar

Pattern Sizing: 6-8-12-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it looked just like the pattern

Were the instructions easy to follow? I used the instructions very little. I purchased an online class from bluprint/craftsy and the pattern was included with the course taught by Lynda Maynard

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the bias stand up collar. This is not something you see every day and it’s a nice classy touch. I also loved the topstitching which definitely elevates the garment and prevents it from looking home sewn.

Fabric Used: Ponte knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Mostly length alterations. I shortened the length of the dress by approximately 5 inches.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I absolutely would. I think this pattern would look good in stretch denim with jean type threading or a luxury wool crepe

Conclusion: Definitely a wardrobe builder and nice accent piece: Read more here

Sewing Tips

  • Practice topstitching
  • Use a sewing gauge that attaches to your sewing machine OR a presser foot with good markings
  • Topstitch slowly and diligently
  • IF you can, make a muslin for fitting and remember that knit stretches

Bluprint Class Review

I would rate this class 4/5 stars. It depends on what you skill level is and how much help you need.  If this is your first time sewing a Vogue pattern, sewing a lining, skirt vent or doing serious topstitching I think this is an excellent place to start.  The beauty of online classes is that you can fast forward, skip around or passively listen to get what you need to complete the project.  Ive taken other classes with Lynda Maynard and they never disappoint.
